Gunhild "Bunny" DuChamp, Plummer, MN, age 103, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025 at Greenleaf Assisted Living in Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM with the funeral service to celebrate Bunny's life at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN, with Reverend Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Gunhild Nesland was born January 23, 1922 on the family farm, Benville Township, near Grygla, MN, the daughter of Mikkel and Gunne (Roysland) Nesland. She was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Grygla. She attended Dalos School and Crookston Agricultural College, graduating in 1943. She went to work as a stenographer for Nash Finch in Thief River Falls from 1943-1947.
She was lovingly known as Bunny throughout her life to all her family and friends.
On February 23, 1946, Bunny was united in marriage to Jesse DuChamp at his mother's house at 107 Kneale Avenue South, Thief River Falls. They had 5 children, Leonard, Jana, James, Candice and Cathy. In 1947, the couple made their home in Plummer where they bought the grocery store along with his brother, Wallace and called the store DuChamp Brothers. They made it a general store. In 1965, Jesse sold it to Wallace.
Bunny was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, where she held several offices, taught Sunday School, release time and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed quilting, was an avid bowler, a charter member of the Plummer American Legion Auxiliary, where she held several offices, was a life member of Tri-River Pioneers, a member of Plummer Senior Citizens and held several offices there. She enjoyed time as a homemaker and loved sewing. She made most of the children's clothes when they were young. After Jesse's death in 1979, Bunny worked at the school in the kitchen.
She is survived by children: Leonard (Miko) DuChamp, Bremerton, WA, Jana (Mark) Granum, Sioux Falls, SD, James (Deborah) DuChamp, Plummer, MN, Candice (Daniel) Stanley, Bradenton, FL and Cathy (Kevin) Samuelson, Sarles, ND; grandchildren: Chris (Bobbi) DuChamp, Nikki (Jayar) DuChamp, Marci (Steve) Kloety, Tim (Stacy) Granum, Danica Stanley, Nicholas (Rika) DuChamp, Sam Granum, Brady Samuelson, Jesse Stanley; great-grandchildren: Lenisa, Jonsaih, Bryce, Bret, Raejay, Julia, Leon, Jazmin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by husband Jesse in 1979; parents; siblings: Gertie (Sam) Haugen, Torkel (Stella) Nesland, Targie Nesland, Tillie (Orville) Aaskeland, Ole Nesland, Knute (Stella) Nesland, Julia (Floyd) Clausen, Theresa (Alvin) Blaine; in-laws: Wallace (Louella) DuChamp, Robert (Camille) DuChamp, Marcella (Cliff) Bugge and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Greenleaf Assisted Living and Hospice/HIA of Red River Valley for the wonderful care they provided to Bunny.
