Guy Daniel Reed, 74, of Hope Mills, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Born August 2, 1950, in Christiansburg, VA, Guy was the son of the late Glenn Calvin and Hazel Boone Reed. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Reed.
Some of Guy's favorite childhood memories were of the time he spent at his grandfather Boone's farm in Pocahontas, VA., where he developed a deep appreciation for animals and farm life. His first job was as a paperboy, riding his bike each morning to complete his route—an experience he credited for instilling in him a strong work ethic and sense of organization that stayed with him throughout his life.
Guy attended Virginia Tech, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science. While at Virginia Tech, he worked on the university's dairy farm and proudly served as the drum captain for the Highty-Tighties, the school's regimental band.
Following college, Guy served with honor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a navigator aboard AC-130 Spectre gunships, flying numerous missions, including refugee evacuations during the Fall of Saigon. He also served as a navigator instructor and attained the rank of Captain. His military service remained one of the proudest accomplishments of his life.
After his military career, Guy transitioned into retail management, working with companies such as Kroger, Harris Teeter, and Tractor Supply. He concluded his professional journey with Agri Supply in Garner, NC.
Guy and Judy shared a love for animals and spent many years together on their farm in Fremont, NC. There, they raised quarter horses, miniature horses, and a variety of other animals.
Guy is survived by his son, Matthew Reed and wife Valerie; grandchildren, Davis Reed and Ellis Reed; stepson, Bryan de Reyna; stepdaughter, Amy de Reyna; step grandchildren, Lauren de Reyna, Cora Burrows, Nicholas Hainey, and Alexis Hainey; and a host of other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Pinecrest Funeral and Cremation Services in Hope Mills, NC. His final inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
