Hazel Louise nee Myers (Hanaway) Crane, age 99, of DeMotte, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Hazel was born in Wheatfield, Indiana on January 2, 1926. She enjoyed growing up on the family farm out in the marsh. On December 23, 1949, she married Louis Crane in Hessville, Indiana. Together they raised five sons.
She loved getting her hands dirty in the garden, often giving away the fruits of her labor. You could never stop by her house without seeing something she had recently baked; among the favorites were her homemade pies and sweet rolls. The shelves were always stocked with many things she canned, but a favorite was her applesauce. She is known by many in the community as being their bus driver and was known to pull the bus over if the kids got too rowdy.
Hazel is survived by her 5 sons: Gene Hanaway, Terry Hanaway, Mike (Teresa) Crane, Phil (Nancy) Crane, and James (Debbie) Crane and their families including numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, of 75 years. Also, her parents; Lee and Mabel Myers, brother Ralph, sisters; Ruby, Lois, and Martha; Grandsons; Todd, Ryan, and Steve, and daughter-in-law Susan Hanaway.
A visitation will be held at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte, Indiana on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at noon. Funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Joe Kenning. Interment will follow at DeMotte Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can go to First Baptist Church of DeMotte.
