Celebrating the Extraordinary Life of Helen Grabowski (1937 – 2025)
With profound love and deep gratitude, we celebrate the remarkable life of Helen Grabowski, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher who passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 88.
Helen was born on April 9, 1937, in Hamtramck, Michigan, to Polish immigrants John and Ewa Pawelczyk (née Mylnarczyk). She grew up in Detroit alongside her brother Walter and sister Jenny, embracing her Polish roots and Catholic faith.
Helen graduated from Pershing High School and went on to earn both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Wayne State University-a significant accomplishment for her time. She dedicated her career to teaching in the Detroit Public Schools and Catholic parochial schools. Helen firmly believed in the power of education to shape lives and create opportunities. Among her most meaningful roles was teaching catechism to children with special needs.
On May 26, 1962, Helen married the love of her life Eugene "Gene" Grabowski. Their marriage was built on a strong partnership and they shared much of their lives side by side. Together, they created a warm and loving home in Warren, where they raised two sons, Gene Jr. and Christopher. Over the years, their family grew to include daughters-in-law Laura and Nicole and five grandchildren-Andrei, Nikolai, Angelina, Brianna, and Ethan. Helen took great joy in passing down her love of family traditions to the next generation.
Helen enjoyed summers at the family cottage and visits with relatives in Port Austin. She found joy in gardening and took pride in preparing traditional Polish meals for Christmas and Easter. She also appreciated life's quieter moments-long drives with Gene and their Maltese dogs, Maria and Sarah, and the everyday routines of family life that meant so much to her.
Helen now joins her beloved Gene, reunited in eternal peace and love. Rest in peace Helen, you will be deeply missed.
Visitation will take place at Frazer Funeral Home, 21001 Pontiac Trail, South Lyon, on Thursday, July 10th, from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 11th, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 South Lafayette Street, South Lyon, where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and prayer.
Following the service, Helen will be laid to rest during a formal burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, where she will be reunited with her beloved Gene.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Warren De La Salle Collegiate, a Catholic institution that held a special place to both Helen and Gene.
