Obituary published on Legacy.com by Klein Funeral Home - Tomball on Jul. 22, 2025.
Dr. Helen C. Stockebrand, age 90, a long-time resident of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 14th. She was born January 8th, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Costas Condodina and Glyka (Kylonis) Condodina.
She is survived by her sister, Alice (Robert Lickus) Condodina; nephews, Dean (Cynthia) Condodina, Art (Jenifer) Condodina, Stephen Condodina, Marko (Victoria) DeSantis; nieces, Andrea (Mark) Wynn, Vanessa DeSantis Anderson.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Stockebrand; son, Arthur Stockebrand; and brother, Arthur G. Condodina.
Helen graduated from Beaver College with a degree in early education/music. She was passionate about music and started her career teaching music at several schools. She received her PhD from Temple University in the 1980s and boosted her career in the education field by achieving positions as Vice-Principal, Principal, and finally as Superintendent of High Schools in Texas. Her career included some years focused on education programs for developmentally disabled individuals. She retired from Sol Ross State University in Alpine, TX.
Throughout her adult life she was heavily involved with her Greek Orthodox Church and was organist with the church choir for many years. Helen also was a noted choir director at schools where she was teaching. Her father bought her a gorgeous 1901 Steinway Grand Piano in the 1950s, which Helen owned and cherished and enjoyed playing for her entire adult life.
She met her husband, Bill, while working at a summer camp during her college years and they fell instantly in love. They spent a beautiful life together, living in and near Philadelphia, then in Delaware, in Maryland, in Mexico and finally in The Woodlands, TX, where they settled in the late 1980s. Along with their son, Arthur, they loved to travel throughout Mexico and Europe, and had a special place in their hearts for trips to Greece where they would share their heritage with beloved Greek relatives. She was fluent in both Greek (her first language, having been born to Greek immigrants) and Spanish. Helen was deservedly proud of the life she created, including achievements with distinction in her careers as well as enjoying an active, happy, family life. Helen always maintained close ties to her siblings, and to her Greek friends with whom she enjoyed sharing her special love and talents for Greek cooking. Helen enjoyed a wonderful celebration of her 90th birthday last January, together with her sister Alice, her Goddaughter Vanessa, and nephew Marko at Avanti Care Center in Cypress, Texas. All our family will forever cherish Helen's generous and loving life.
May her memory be eternal!!
