I was so sad to learn of Herman´s passing when speaking to Jim and Kathy Edelman today while up mowing the lawn at the cabin . I certainly would have been at the funeral had I known about it . My first memories of Herman are of my Grandpa Arvid Johnson and him speaking about hunting and trapping at the old shack that Otto and Emma Frederiks built when they homesteaded next door to Herman´s land . This was probably in the late 60 s as I was lucky enough to be with them when 8-9 years old . The old wolf stories were incredible to listen to and Herman had lots of wolf stories ! He was as tough as they come as I remember numerous times over the years he would be propped up on his crutches working his fence and repairing it needing nobody´s help . I´ll never forget him and Jim Platt and their deer and wolf stories . My last visit with Jim I drove over to Bagley to visit him and we had ice cream cones and spoke about his service in the war as it was Veterans Day and I helped the group with a picture that they put in the paper . Lots of fun and lots of never ending memories - he was as tough as they come and I think they threw the mold away after Herman was made . He will be sorely missed !
