Mr. Hobson "Hop" Lane Jones, Sr., 95, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00pm at Juniper Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Juniper Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Vanceboro.
Mr. Hop, son of the late Tommie and Dora Jones, was born on July 1, 1929. He was a life-long resident of Craven County. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and working in the garden. He especially enjoyed riding his golf car around the Marl Hole. Mr. Hop loved hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hop was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Wilson Jones; son, Johnny Fabian Jones; his siblings, Bert Jones, Ernest Jones, Marlow Jones, Gilbert Jones, Aaron Jones, and Aileen Andrews.
He is survived by his sons, Tommy Jones (Donna) and Hoppy Jones, Jr.; grandchildren, Kendall Jones (Caitlyn), Jennifer Barrow (Johnny), Jonathan Jones (Stephanie), Matthew Jones, Abigail Weaver (Jason), Christi Blankenship (Joseph), Jason McIllwain, and Hannah Mathison; great-grandchildren, Julie (Mikey), Johnny (Bella), Hunter, Gunner, Wesson, and Lane; great-great-grandchild Airia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Happy please let your family know I'm really sorry for the loss of your dad. I lost mine when he was 59, so your really blessed you had all those years together. You hold on to all the good memories and remember the lessons he taught you. Me and you are the old ones now. Take care, Milton Jones
