Hythern Hicks Welch Obituary

Hythern Yuvonne Hicks Welch "Ms. Happy", 83 years of age, of Mavisdale, VA, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at her residence with her family by her side. Born May 23, 1941, in Cretta, WV, she was the daughter of the late Willie Hicks and Lola Mullins Duncan.
Hythern was one of the oldest members of Keen Mountain Holiness Church, where she faithfully attended until her health failed her, and she continued to watch online faithfully. She enjoyed working outside, gardening, cutting her grass, canning and quilting. She was a babysitter and mother to numerous children through the years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandson Connor, the love of her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe Henry Welch, sister Chestine Eller and brothers Grady Hicks, Franklin Hicks and Billy Hicks.
Survivors include her son Rickie Welch of Mavisdale, VA, Paul Welch and wife Liz of Mavisdale, VA; son at heart Mark (Susan) Counts and their children Benji, Alex and Nick; sister Molly (Gary) Click of Berwind, WV; brother Gary Ray Hicks of Berwind, WV.
She is also survived by her grandson Connor Welch and sisters-in-law Virginia Brown, Linda Farris, Doris Dillow, Donna Welch and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Hythern Yuvonne Welch will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Keen Mountain, VA with Pastor Randy Webb and Pastor Leonard Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.
Pallbearers will be Chad Hurley, Dalton White, Keith Miller, Keith Baldwin, Jacob Hicks, Brandon Bowman, Steve Diles and Billy Clifton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Porter, Luke Shelton, Benji Counts, Alex Counts, Nick Counts, Dennis Farris and the men of the Keen Mountain Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon.
