In the early morning hours of Sunday July 21, 2024, Ida McHargue passed away peacefully in her home in Winston-Salem, NC at the age of 95. Born on August 9, 1928, in Lewisville, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Sarah and William Dalton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her passion and integrity to those that she loved was unwavering. Her infectious smile and laugh will live on forever in the lives of those she touched. Her love as a wife, mother and grandmother was unconditional and her hugs could cure all. She taught her children and grandchildren to never give up and keep fighting. Ida lived a full and vibrant life. We will remember Ida for her loving nature, her playfulness, and her occasional, endearing stubbornness. There was not a minute that went by that she was not telling her children and grandchildren how much she loved them and was proud of them. Ida loved gardening, planting flowers, canning, and most importantly her family. Every summer she had her two grandkids in the garden barefoot and in the dirt helping her pick tomatoes, green beans, corn, and anything else she planted. She shared all her childhood memories with her children and grandchildren and was willing to teach anybody anything that she knew how to do. She was always present and part of our everyday lives in such a tangible way. She was very humble but impacted our lives in such a tremendous way. She taught us to walk with the lord and work for him. She taught us to work hard and pray for everything. She instilled strength in us by the life she lived. We will greatly miss her wisdom, compassion, humor, patience and love. She indeed broke the mold, and we will forever remember the impact she left on our lives and miss her. Ida will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gary McHargue; and her two grandchildren, Brittany Myers (Shawn) and Brandon McHargue, one brother and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Cecil McHargue and her oldest son Raeford McHargue, as well as five brothers and two sisters. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Marshall Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Saturday evening at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
