Irene June Mitchell Gibson, 93 of Speedwell, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Tri-state Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrogate. She was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on June 28, 1931and was the daughter of the late James Issac and Winnie Whitaker Mitchell. Irene was a member of Haynes Flat Baptist Church and had worked in several different roles for the Claiborne County Board of Education until her retirement.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gibson; grandson, Brian Gibson; brothers, Wheeler, Rex, and Foy Mitchell.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Debbie Coleman and husband, Roy; son, Danny Gibson and wife, Becky; grandson, Michael Coleman; great-grandchildren, Jessica Gibson Gilbert and Ryan Coleman; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Tri-State Health and Rehab and Geniva Hospice.
Private Graveside services will be at the Gibson Cemetery in Speedwell on Sunday, December 8 with Rev. Mark Bayless. Music will by Kayla Hopper. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family suggests contributions in Irene's memory be made to Fincastle Church, 629 Old Middlesboro Highway, LaFollette, TN 37766, or any charity of your choice.
