In Loving Memory of Iris McClure Taunton Iris McClure Taunton 93, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ms. Iris, mostly known as Gran, was born to Harvie Benjamin McClure and Iris Bond McClure in Jonesville, La April 4, 1932.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack Taunton, son, Jackie Dale Taunton, two brothers Walter Frank and Harvie (Bud) McClure.
She is survived by her son, Ben Taunton (Connie) of Monterey, her daughter Connie Manning (Buddy) of Jonesville, and daughter-in-law Lana Taunton Carr (Shelby) of Jonesville. Grandchildren are Brandon Manning, Becky Akins (John), Sonni Davis (Dustin), Matthew Taunton (Jamie), Katie Smith (Jere), Logan Taunton (Christina), and Micah Taunton (Emma-Leigh), seventeen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; three very special friends, Maxine Lancaster, Irma Stevenson and Alethea Fisher who lovingly cared for her during her last days.
Iris spent most of her life in Jonesville. She and her husband Jack were married for 70 years and were active members of Utility Baptist Church. Both played important roles within the church community. During the 1980s, Iris owned and operated Country Cousins clothing store for several years. She was also known in the community as one of the best tea cake makers around. Iris was a loving mother and grandmother, affectionately called Gran by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was deeply involved in their upbringing, always taking an active role in teaching and caring for them. She was greatly loved by each and every one of them. As with anyone that lives 93 years it is impossible to tell all about her life here, but without a doubt she was the picture of the Christian woman in Proverbs 31. She was diligent with a keen sense of business matters, full of compassion and love for everyone, prepared for the future, a good teacher dedicated to her family with faithful service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Services will be Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday, LA. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with funeral service at 11. Graveside services will be at Taunton Coleman cemetery Hwy 8 Manifest Louisiana. Following the burial, the family will receive friends at Miss Iris's house.

Connie and Ben,
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of your mother. Iris was always someone I looked up to, she was always a very good example of a Christian woman. She inspired me and others to follow Christ. Growing up I always knew that she loved the Lord and she made me want to be like her.
I´m so sorry I didn´t get to come to the funeral but I will keep y´all in my thoughts and prayers. Love you all so much.
