Irma Clare Payne Painter, 91, of Oak Hill, West Virginia passed away at Hospice of Southern West Virginia on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Born on August 8, 1933, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Payne and Vita Clare Light Payne.
Irma was a 1951 graduate of Oak Hill High School. She made her career working at G C Murphy Company for many years and later as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Dothan. The most favorite part of her career was being a housewife and mother to her three children.
Her favorite hobby was playing her piano and singing, she would gather the entire family around the piano and sing, especially at Christmas! She was also a member of the Wriston First Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Harold Painter, and a daughter, Vickie Painter Harris.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Thomas Painter (Barbara) and Donna Painter; two grandchildren, Timothy Harris (Lucinda) and Ka Fortner (Jason); four great-grandchildren, Madison Harris and fiancé, Alyssa, Hunter and Lydia Harris, and Auston Fortner.
Services will be at High Lawn Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Hillard "Lum" Toney and Michael Parsons Officiating. Interment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
Friends my visit with the family 1 hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Harris, Joe Morris, Tom Richards, Steve Gruenberg, Joe Webb, and Julio Jamie.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Hospice of Sothern West Virginia, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, West Virginia 25801.
