Herbert Cleveland Tatum, 75, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Richmond VA Medical Center. Born on July 16, 1949, Herbert was the son of the late Robert and Jessie Hubbard Tatum. He was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Christal Tatum McCollum. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Herbert lived a life of service, strength, and quiet devotion. He was a dedicated member of The Heights Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 215 in Goochland. After many years of hard work and commitment, Herbert retired from Verizon Wireless, where he served as an Inventory Specialist. Herbert was known for his gentle spirit, steady presence, and the deep love he gave to those closest to him. For 33 beautiful years, he shared his life with his devoted partner, Terry M. Davis. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Caitlin B. McCollum; great-grandson, Brantley Stevens; and grandson, Brian Tyler King. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 US-1, South Chesterfield, VA 23834. Reverend Michael Osborne will officiate. Following the service, Herbert will be laid to rest at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening July 2, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to your local animal shelter. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
