Johnny Mack Blair, son of the late, Fred and Carrie Blair, was a man of deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering love. Born on August 6, 1937, he lived a life marked by kindness, wisdom, and dedication to both family, church, and community. He had several nicknames -"Mackie", "Blair", "Sensei", and "Rev." He had twelve siblings that preceded him in death; 5 sisters:( Etta Mae, Cherry, Elbena, Elsie and Beatrice) 7 brothers:(Jessie, Jimmie, Ollie, Yoma, Leman, Dorsey and Ray)
He attended and graduated from Jeff Davis County Public School System. He also attended Savannah State College before being drafted in United States Military (Army).
He retired from CSX Railroad as a Sheet- Metal Worker with over 30 years of service. Blair was a smart, creative man who loved writing, drawing, painting, cooking, karate, making wine, traveling, teaching and mentoring to others about God's word.
He faithfully served as a member of First African Missionary Baptist Church in Baxley, Ga. He served as a deacon and church clerk for approx. 20 years and then served as the Pastor of FAB for 25 years, leading with humility, compassion, and love until his retirement. He continued to serve as pastor emeritus until his departure. His ministry touched countless lives and left a legacy of service that will live on for generations.
He was a devoted husband for 49 years, a loving father, proud poppa, and a trusted friend and mentor. Whether offering a listening ear, sharing scriptures, giving a word of encouragement, or leading by example, Rev. Blair touched hearts with his steady presence and servant's heart. His faith in God was the foundation of his life, and he lived each day with purpose and grace. He believed in hard work, in doing right by others, and in leaving the world better than he found it.
Pastor Blair entered eternal rest on March 28, 2025, surrounded by love.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ethel Blair; his daughters, Frances Blair of Florida, and Carol Reed (Bennie) of Waycross, GA, grandchildren Erika Washington (James) and Aalia Reed, both of Waycross, GA; and great-grandchildren Jordan Steele, Mia Washington, and Noah Washington and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
