Bishop J. C. Walton was born October 31, 1933 in Magee, MS to the union of Johnnie and Lyda
Walton. He is the youngest of three children. During his childhood, the family moved to
Hattiesburg, MS. where he was educated and became a construction worker. Bishop Walton
was baptized at Savannah Grove B. C., pastored by the late Rev. Cecil Newell. He was
previously married to Myrtle Mae Lawrence and this union yielded nine children.
He was baptized in the name of Jesus at Faith Temple Church of God – The Holy Ghost Center,
pastored by the late Archbishop Henry Dabon, Jr. Later in life, he met and married Doris
Dabon. During this union, he and his wife were ordained as ministers of the gospel and
consecrated as Bishops together. He served as Sunday School teacher, head deacon and
assistant to the pastor. After having visited Jackson, MS on their honeymoon, the Waltons
decided they wanted to make their new home in Jackson. In Jackson, MS, he organized Church
of the Living God. He served as pastor of this church until they moved back to New Orleans
many years later. During this ministry, Bishop Walton called many to Christ and helped many
who were homeless, many who were without transportation, who were without food and even
many who were without money. He married, christened, baptized and buried all whom God
brought to him. Bishop Doris Walton worked right by his side. They were married Forty-three
years. Bishop J. C. Walton is currently a member of Macedonia Christian Church; Pastored by Reverend
Kenneth Hill in Alabama.
Bishop Walton was a man who never tired of talking about Jesus. He was a man who thought
everybody could be saved, so he talked to whomever came in his path about our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Bishop Walton is preceded in death by his father and mother, Johnnie and Lyda Walton, his
sister, Louise Dozier. his brother Roosevelt Walton, his grandson, Titus Walters, his daughter
Tammie Walters, his son Billie Dale Walters, his step grandson, his step-daughter Connie M. Gaspard,
Glenn Williams, Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Corrine Walters.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Bishop Doris D. Walton, Desire Coleman,
Willie Walters, Alton Walters (Sharlene), John Walters (Linda), Jimmy Walters (Sherita) Aaron
Walters, Delores Walters, Terilyn Stewart (Jeffrey), Jewel Everette (Eddie) and a host of
grandchildren, step grandchildren, great and great-great, grandchildren, step great and great-
great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, 1:00pm, December 14, 2024, at Families First Funeral Care Chapel, 1328 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Georgia 31405.
