Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 1, 2025.

Beloved husband of Ruth (née Weyhmuller) for 51 years. Loving father of Holly (Jay) Reynolds and Terry (Aires) Thompson. Cherished Pop-Pop to his five adored grandchildren: Hanley, Max, Caroline, Penelope, and Ellie.

Jack was born in Philadelphia in 1937, a city whose history he held close to his heart throughout his life. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal and was a proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

Before beginning his career in law enforcement, Jack played semi-professional football, but his career was cut short by a serious back injury. Following a long and difficult rehabilitation, Jack developed a lifelong commitment to physical fitness, with a particular focus on weightlifting. His dedication never wavered-not even in his later years. Just recently he'd been searching online for "intense weightlifting programs for an 88-year-old" (of which, he noted with amusement, there were few).

Following his recovery, Jack embarked on a distinguished law enforcement career, first as a police officer with Temple University and then with the Springfield Township Police Department. At Springfield, Jack was hired as a patrolman in 1972, appointed detective in 1974, and promoted to patrol sergeant in 1975. In 1985, he was appointed to the newly created position of administrative sergeant, and in 1992, he was promoted to lieutenant-reviving a rank that had been dormant since the 1960s.

Throughout his career, Jack received many citizen commendations and was known for his keen focus on the latest law enforcement technology and training, becoming a certified instructor in many areas. Jack retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, integrity, and dedication to his community. He was a proud member of FOP Lodge 14 for over 50 years.

A passionate fan of Philadelphia sports, especially the Eagles and Phillies, Jack loved watching his teams-and never missed a game. A lifelong avid reader, Jack's passion for learning began with books and grew deeper with the arrival of the internet and online reading. He had a special love for Philadelphia history, and in his later years could often be found listening to old-time music and pouring through archival photos and stories from the city's past. His curiosity, sharp memory, and deep appreciation for where he came from made him a storyteller in the truest sense.

As a young man, Jack obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his plane to various states along the East Coast. He also loved taking long rides on his motorcycle-a hobby he continued well into his 80s. After he stopped riding his motorcycle, his family jokingly "conceded" to an e-bike, which Jack enjoyed riding for hours on end.

Jack's greatest joy came from being Pop-Pop to Hanley, Max, Caroline, Penelope, and Ellie. He loved nothing more than spending time with them-especially attending their sporting events. No game was complete without his signature post-game analysis: a blend of heartfelt tips for improving performance mixed with his signature humor and good-natured teasing. These moments were treasured by his grandchildren and will be remembered with love and laughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jack's visitation on Thursday, August 7, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Craft Funeral Home of Erdenheim, 814 Bethlehem Pike.

Interment will be private.

Well done Sgt. My street Sgt for about 6 years after the academy. Squad 4 for STPD consisted of Thompson, Ash, E. Boyle, Davies, Medwid. Good times and tough times on those 6 and 2's. We did the job well. Thanks for guiding a new 25 year old cop through the paces. Our shifts ended a long time ago but the memories still survive. Thank you - rest well.
