He was born January 26, 1936 in Ramsey, IL, the son of Milta William "Shug" and Ruby Catherine (Spires) Hicks. He married Joan Katherine Schultz in 1964 in Ramsey, IL. Jackie worked as a heavy equipment operator with Operator's Local 520 in Swansea, IL. He owned and operated Hicks Rock Quarry in Ramsey, IL, for many years, and the High Hat Bar and Lounge in Vandalia for 12 years. He served his country in the United States Army Military Police Company.
Jackie is survived by his wife, Joan Hicks of Ramsey, IL; his daughter, Jackie Mealka of Chandler, AZ; his grandchildren, Matthew and Mackenzie; one great grandchild; his brother, Gene Hicks (Lola) of Vandalia, IL; and his sister, Judy Harris (Rex) of O'Fallon, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Forbes.
A funeral service will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, IL, officiated by Pastor Terry Sapp. Burial with military rites will follow at the Ramsey Cemetery in Ramsey, IL. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday, from 9:30 am till 11:00 am at the Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, IL. Memorials can be made to the Ramsey Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Ramsey, IL, is in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net
