Jacob "Jake" Ernest Keegel, age 74, of Lovilia, IA, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, IA, surrounded by his family. Jake was born on May 7, 1951, at home on the farm near Bussey, IA, to Joe Marion and Nettie Lucille (Courtney) Keegel. He grew up attending country school and graduated from the Twin Cedars High School with the class of 1970. Following high school, Jake served his country in the United States Army from 1970-1973, stationed in Germany. On September 18, 1976, he was united in marriage to Karen Smith and to this union, 5 children, Jennifer, Jacob, Karrie, Josh, and Joe, were born. Jake and Karen shared 48 years of marriage prior to his passing. In his early working career, Jake worked road construction building bridges. He then went to work for Chamberlains in Albia before working at Sarges Meat Locker. He finished his working career in the machine shop at Vermeer in Pella where he worked for 15 years until his retirement. Jake was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and coon hunting with his kids. He also enjoyed farming and working cattle. He enjoyed sports and loved attending his children and grandchildren's events over the years. Above all else, Jake's true joy in life was spending time with his family. Jake is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Jennifer (Brock) Sennes, Jacob (Lisa) Keegel, Karrie Keegel, Josh (Melissa) Keegel, Joe (Lindsey) Keegel, and Issiaha "Bubba" Keegel; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Greene, Ellen (Steve) Pyle, Martha (Mike) Hornick, Susie Prevo, Brenda Major and Sandra Keegel; and a brother, Joe Keegel. Jake is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nettie Keegel; an infant sister, Deborah Ann Keegel and a sister, Louise Johnson. Per Jake's wishes his body has been cremated a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cards of condolences/memorials can be sent to Jake's family at 1091 634th Lane, Lovilia, IA 50150.
