James M. Baird, fondly known as Jim, "The Picture Man," departed this world on July 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy immortalized through his lens and a profound impact on those who knew him. Born in Hanau, Germany, on August 28, 1951, Jim was a vibrant spirit whose passion for life unfolded beautifully throughout his journey.
In a career that spanned several decades, Jim made indelible contributions to the world of photography. He retired from K-mart, yet his artistic endeavors flourished as he founded Indie Images Custom Photos. For many years, he served as the trade photographer at Beech Bend, capturing not only moments but memories that would last a lifetime. His work graced the pages of VIP Bowling Green magazine and local Beech Tree News, where his writings complemented his visual artistry, painting pictures with words as vividly as with his camera.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was a dedicated educator. He shared his knowledge and love of photography and drumming through community education, teaching countless students to appreciate the beauty of both art forms. His proudest accomplishments resonated throughout his community, echoing the laughter and learning from the classrooms where he inspired budding photographers and musicians alike.
The enchantment of nature captivated Jim, leading him on countless adventures through backpacking and hiking. He thrived in the great outdoors, with a heart almost as wild as the landscapes he loved to explore. Whether he was perched on the sidelines of a drag race or surrounded by family, Jim's zest for life was infectious, embodying the spirit of joy in every endeavor.
Jim is survived by his beloved spouse, Mary Baird, who remains a beacon of strength and love. He cherished his daughter, Shanda Baird-Collett and her husband Andy, who stood by him through life’s many seasons. His legacy continues through the laughter and exuberance of his grandchildren, Tori Wright and Drieux Collett, who will carry on his light and creativity into future generations.
Jim also leaves behind siblings Mary VanSingel (Mark), Glenn Baird (Sylvia), Ben Baird (Roxanne), and Cindy Baird, each of whom held precious memories of their time together, weaving a tapestry of love that will endure.
Though Jim’s parents, Glenn and Elfriede Baird, have passed, their influence undoubtedly shaped the man he became—someone who brought joy, inspiration, and warmth into the lives of all around him.
As we remember James M. Baird, we celebrate a life remarkably lived—a life filled with passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. In the hearts of his family and friends, he will forever remain "The Picture Man," framing moments and memories with a smile that lit up every room he entered.
