James Randall Barwick, 80, resident of Mount Olive, NC peacefully passed away on July 27, 2025 at his home with family by his side. The oldest of 7 children, James was born on May 23, 1945 in Wayne County to Evelyn and Harold Barwick.

James met the love of his life, Mary "Tina" Barwick at a church event. The very next day (Christmas Eve) they had their first date and a few months later married on April 6, 1967. Together, they shared 58 years of a marriage admired by many friends and family for its extraordinary love and example. Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter; Rena Lopes, and a son; Harold "Eddie" Barwick; grandchildren, Kristen Ginn (Husband Brent), Chasity Barwick (partner Will), Spencer Crowson, Brittany Perry, and Alyssa Mulligan (Husband Shaun); siblings, Lavon Langdon (Husband Howard), Maxton Barwick (Wife Fay), Betty-May Keel, Bernice Kelly,(Husband Walter), Mark Barwick (Wife Tammy), and Joe Barwick (Wife Kathy); great-grandchildren, Hallie Ginn, Emelyn Ginn, Kenzie Ginn, Lily Kovach.

James was preceded in death by his parents; Harold and Evelyn Barwick; a son, James "Randy" Barwick; and a grandson, Trevor Barwick.

James genuinely enjoyed the simple life. When at home you would often find him sitting on his back porch while listening to country music, or tending to his chickens and garden. He took great pleasure in reading, driving his truck to see his grand-babies, and watching a good summer thunderstorm. James worked passionately as a mechanic for most of his life where his talent was uncanny, along with many years at the News Argus. James will be remembered for the unwavering devotion he had for his wife and family, his strong, selfless, and witty nature, as well as his hardworking spirit. Having recently given his heart to Jesus, his family is joyfully looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Wayne's Chapel Church on Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive at 6 o'clock in the afternoon. Pastor Ralph Parker will officiate the celebration with the family receiving friends immediately following the service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the ICU department at Wayne UNC Hospital, and to 3HC for the care and compassion shown to them in the days leading up to their bereavement.
