James Bemis Obituary

James Lynn Bemis, 79, of Maurertown, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m., at Zion Christian Church, in Maurertown. Pastor Eric van Leeuwen will officiate.

Mr. Bemis was born October 3, 1945, in Woodstock, son of the late Wilbert P. Bemis and Lois V. Wright Bemis. He was a 1964 graduate of Central High School and worked for 43 years as a salesman for Irvin Candy Company in Edinburg. Upon his retirement, his passion was being a camp host at Endless Caverns. He was a member of Zion Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Feller Bemis whom he married on July 22, 1964; daughters, Theresa Lynne Bemis Smith and Kim of Maurertown, Kelly Ann Bemis Gochenour and Lester Jr. of Maurertown; and bonus daughter, Amara Rose Funkhouser Williams and Jayden of Middletown; grandchildren, Lexton Gochenour and Katie, Chase Smith, and Colten Smith and Alyssa; stepgrandson, Anthony Smith and three great-grandchildren, Conner, Rylie and Preston Gochenour.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Christian Church, Toms Brook Vol. Fire Department or charity of choice.

Jim loved 'Chillin" on his front porch, camping and spending time with his family.
