Cecilia- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church honoring the life of James Irvin Brown, 73, who passed away on June 25, 2025.
A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
A Rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
Rev. Travis Abadie will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Kaydon Richard and Chante Calais. Gift bearers will be Jaydon Brown and Shandé Landry.
James' wishes were to be cremated following the service. Burial will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery at a later date.
Born on March 29, 1952, in Houston, Texas, James lived a life characterized by his deep love for family, his dedicated work as a horse trainer, and his unwavering commitment to his community. Throughout his life, James exemplified hard work and passion as a horse trainer, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. He enjoyed volunteering at his church and commitment to service. James also found happiness in his hobbies, which included fishing and going the racetrack. He will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Geneva Davis Brown; three daughters, Mena Lemelle, Cherria, Richard (Joseph) and Jennifer Landry (Shannon); grandchildren, Bryson Benoit, Keylon Brown, Nyahh Journet, Jaydon Brown, Lakayvon Richard, Kaydon Richard, Shandé Landry, Shanlee Landry and Shannson Landry; brother, Joseph Brown, Jr. (Josie); and sister, Dorothy Jones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Brown, Sr and Amy Cormier Brown; brother, John Brown; sister, Aline Brown; and brother-in-law, Calvin Jones.
Pallbearers will be Tim Lassaigne, Bryson Benoit, Joseph Auguillard, John Olivier, Aaron Smith, and Jesse Zenon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Erine Filer, Keylon Brown, LaKayvon Richard, Shannon Landry, Joseph Richard, Jermain Davis, Emile Chevalier, and Foley Davis.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
