James T. "Tom" Curran, Jr., 74, of Burlington, WV, died on Monday, July 14, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, MD.
Born on August 12, 1950 in Rada, WV, he was a son of the late James T. Curran, Sr. and Delta Mae (Dove) Curran. On July 29, 1986, he married the love of his life, Sierra S. (Barr) Curran, who passed away on January 23, 2022. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Melda Wine and a granddaughter, Breanna.
Mr. Curran retired in 2008 from the West Virginia Department of Highways after 29 years of service. "Tom" as he was known to family and friends, enjoyed CB radios, spending time with his grandsons and helping his son-in-law on the farm. Tom has a special wit about him that will be greatly missed by friends and family. He has been told by many friends that they have never met anyone like him and they always knew that he was going to make them laugh. Tom never met a stranger.
Surviving are two daughters, Jodi Secrist and husband Garett of Burlington and Tonya Zuniga of Martinsburg, WV; two sons, James R. Curran of Keyser, WV and Danny Bartges and wife Honey of Staunton, VA; grandchildren, Brady Secrist, Carter and Trenton Zuniga, Joseph Heavener and Whitley Wright. Also surviving is his beloved dog "Buffy."
At Mr. Curran's request, there will be no visitation or services.
Private interment will be in the Elijah High Cemetery, Purgitsville, WV.
The Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
