James Elliott Obituary

James Vernon Elliott, 81, of Sandy Run, SC, formerly of Columbia, died on Friday, April 4, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Orangeburg on November 21, 1943, he was the son of the late Raymond Henry Elliott and Ouita Hickman Elliott.
James graduated from Dreher High School and Clemson University. While at Clemson, he was a member of the Numeral Society, where he made lifelong friends. After graduation, James joined his father in business at R.H. Elliott Construction. During those years, the company built several local high schools and other commercial structures in the Columbia area and throughout the state.
After the unexpected passing of his father in 1978, James continued in the commercial sector until 1989, when he transitioned into residential construction, eventually forming Elliott Builders with his son, Scott. The father-son duo were not only business partners, but great friends. James passed away knowing that a third-generation family business would live on and continue to thrive.
As an avid sportsman, James treasured time spent preparing fields and stands for hunting and enjoyed the sport alongside friends and family. Other favorite activities included offshore fishing and boating. Later in life, he created lasting memories while "RVing" across the country with Julie.
James was a humble and generous man with a quick wit and kind-hearted spirit. He was loved and adored by all who knew him and will be missed dearly. James is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Juliet (Julie) Cave Elliott; his son, James Scott Elliott (Gina), of Sandy Run; his daughter, Jennifer Elliott Williams (Lex), of Lexington, and his cherished "Grandgirls," Grayson Danielle Elliott, Ouita Holbrook Elliott, and Garret Ann Williams.
The graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, April 9th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia.
A visitation will precede the service from 11:00am until 12:30pm, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
