James Kye Grow, age 53, of Flandreau, SD, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00PM to 5:00PM on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
James was born on September 5, 1971 to Lloyd and Kye Grow in Seoul, Korea. The family lived there for a short time before moving to the United States. James grew up in a military family spending time in several states and countries.
The family later moved to Marshall, MN where James would graduate from High School. Upon graduation, he studied accounting.
He then went to work in the casino industry at Jackpot Junction in Morton, MN. During this time, James was also in the music scene playing in several different bands including a band with his sister, Susan. He was very musically inclined; he was a singer and guitar player but was able to play several other instruments as well.
James would then move to Florida for a short time before moving to Pipestone, MN and then Flandreau, SD where he bought a home and worked at Royal River Casino as a Blackjack Dealer.
James is survived by his daughter, Daija Grow, Portland, OR, sons, Julius Grow (Mazzy), Sioux Falls, SD, Kye Grow, Uriah Bruguier and Jasper Grow, all of Flandreau, SD; his sister, Susan Marrs, Pipestone, MN and her son Christopher Marrs (Kelly), Sioux Falls, SD, sister, Linda Nordmeyer (Gary) of Canby, MN and her son, Bruce Bultinck (Courtney) Ivanhoe, MN, her daughter, Ashly Nordmeyer, Pipestone, MN, son Taylor Nordmeyer (Hannah), Sioux Falls, SD and son, Timothy Kreun (Madison), Pipestone, MN and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
James was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd E. Grow Jr. and mother, Kye Sik Kim; and his grandparents, Lillian and Lloyd Grow, Sr.
