James Richard Hamilton, 83, of Lakewood Ranch, FL, formerly of Elizabethtown, PA and McLean, VA, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, in Sandy Springs, GA. Born Sunday, June 8, 1941, in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Dorothy (Neidig) Hamilton. He was married 40 years to Lourdes (Perez) Hamilton, who passed away on November 26, 2010.
Jim was retired from the International Monetary Fund, and had previously worked at Arthur Andersen, the American Automobile Association, and the US General Accountability Office. He was a US Army Veteran (with service in South Korea and the Philippines), and a graduate of The George Washington University, Elizabethtown College, and Elizabethtown Area High School.
Jim enjoyed history, golf, and travel, and was known to play his trumpet on occasion. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends, meeting new people, and visiting with as many folks as he could across the country and around the world. He was a proud Hamilton and had a special affection for the Philippines, where his wife was born and raised.
Jim is survived by his two sons, Joseph J. Hamilton and wife Lisa of San Rafael, CA, and John D. Hamilton and wife Lily of Sandy Springs, GA; two grandchildren, Lana and Leia; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Hamilton, widow of his brother, William Hamilton.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1891 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service in the adjoining cemetery.
