James R. Hughes, age 64, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 27, 2025. A service will be held in his honor Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 5:00 pm in Hillcrest Cemetery in Goshen with the Rev. Brian May officiating and Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.
Friday afternoon, the fields glowed a little brighter at sunset, their hundreds of wooded acres waiting for Randy. He loved the wilderness and spent his life gathering as much of it as he could for himself and his family. He spent many, many hours on their patch of land hunting, fishing, and being at home in nature.
Randy loved the woodland almost as much as he loved cars, especially a Ford. Ask anyone who knew him, the story you'll get involves a car, and if it wasn't fast when he found it, it was when he left it. Randy spent many happy days and nights with a race car and amassed many friends in the pursuit of a record eighth mile. His heart and his barn were full of Ford cars ready to break hearts when he took them out for a drive.
In addition to hunting and collecting classic cars, Randy was a hard worker. He went to work in the family pool repair business at age 18 and retired from his lifelong career in 2024.
Randy is survived by his wife Chantel Hughes; father, James L. Hughes; children, James (Jamelyn), Curtis and Grace Hughes and one granddaughter, Caroline Hughes.
