James Jernigan Obituary

James Archie Jernigan, age 85, of Bluewater Bay, Niceville, FL, peacefully passed away on June 29, 2025. Archie was born in Richmond, VA to William Howard and India Branscomb Jernigan. He graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Maryland in 1966 after spending 4 years in the Coast Guard. He married his loving wife, Patricia Anne Nutter in 1965. Archie spent most of his career in the steel industry retiring from US Steel Fairless Works as Chief Engineer and Luken Steel as Chief Engineer. After leaving Lukens Steel, he worked as an Environmental Engineer and was a Project Manager for PSE&G, in New Jersey. Upon retiring again, Archie and Pat left Pennsylvania and moved to Niceville, FL where he renewed his great love of golf, fishing and sailing with friends. He was also very active in the community, getting involved in Property Management where he managed many communities in Bluewater and the surrounding area and was one of the creators of the MSBU for Bluewater Bay. He was on the board of the Bridgeway Center for many years and enjoyed his time with the Institute for Senior Professionals at Northwest Florida State College. He was a longtime, active member of Crosspoint Church where he developed his strong faith in Jesus Christ. Archie is survived by his wife, Patricia, 2 sons, Joseph Barnett Jernigan of Orange Beach, AL and John Carey Jernigan (Cathleen) of Irmo, SC, 5 grandchildren: Alicia Jones, Jamason Jernigan, Chandler Jernigan, Helena Jernigan and Isabelle Jernigan and 7 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving sister, Caroline Brown of Palm City, FL. Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday, July 26th at 3:00 at Crosspoint Church in Niceville, FL.
