James "Jim" Rieken, age 85, of Riceville, Iowa passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
James "Jim" Rieken was born on June 27, 1939, son of George and Edith (Arndt) Rieken. He graduated from Riceville High School in May of 1958. On August 12, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Catherine "Katie" Larsen at the Maple Leaf Church in rural Elma, Iowa.
He enjoyed 35 years of farming with his wife and raising their four children. Jim drove bus for the Riceville Community School for 20 years, which he enjoyed driving to sporting events and mostly the kids. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and playing cards with his buddies. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his children: Brenda Magsamen of Castle Rock, CO, Beverly Schiltz of Mertin, WI, Barbara (John) Schmidt of Nora Springs and Bryan (Susan) Rieken of Worthington; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Larsen of Elma, Shirley Larsen of Elma, Irene (Roger) Heying of Harper's Ferry, Bud Pontenberg of Waterloo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Catherine "Katie" in 2018, father and mother-in-law Victor and Helen Larsen, brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Larsen, Richard Larsen, Gordon Larsen, Francis "Jake" Jacoby, Norma Pontenberg and Myrna Jacoby.
