In Loving Memory of Jan Lea Rich Russell-Jacobik August 3, 1935 – July 2, 2025
Jan Lea Rich Russell-Jacobik, born August 3, 1935, in Brighton, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at RMC Hospital in Anniston. Raised in the Woodward Iron Company employee housing, she carried with her the grit and heart of that tight-knit community.
In the mid-1950s, Jan moved to Hueytown in Jefferson County, where she spent more than 70 years fiercely devoted to her home and her role as a wife and mother. Her life was a force-driven by deep commitment, sharp wit, and a lively spirit that was anything but quiet. Jan didn't wait for life to happen; she met it head-on, voiced her mind, and cared with intensity.
Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony Jacobik; her parents, James L. "Tater" Rich and Naomi Ruth "Dude" Rich; her sister, Linda Ashcraft; and brother-in-law, Roy Ashcraft.
She is survived by her son, Joel Russell of Lithia Springs, Georgia; her son, Jonathan Jacobik of Denver, Colorado; her step-son, Greg Jacobik of Hoover, Alabama; her step-daughter, Toni Marie Jacobik-Perrin of Pell City, Alabama; and her niece, Vanessa Ashcraft-Wallace of Panama City, Florida.
Jan's legacy endures in the lives she shaped with her strong will, vibrant presence, and unmistakable voice and attitude. She will be remembered not only for the love she gave, but for the spirited way she gave it.
A graveside service will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield, Alabama. Valhalla Funeral Home is in charge of services.
