Janet Welch Obituary

Janet Evelyn Welch, 93, a resident of Ashby, died Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Evansville Care Center.

Janet was born on November 14, 1931 in Perley, MN to Elmore and Beda "Gena" (Lystrom) Nyberg. She graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1949 and went on to complete Beauty School.

On November 5, 1955, she married Frank Welch in Nevada. The couple had six children. Through the years, Janet was a homemaker, raised the children, but also worked as a waitress at several different restaurants, including the bowling alley in Wahpeton and at Ten Mile Steakhouse in Dalton, MN.

Janet enjoyed BINGO, crocheting, playing cards, spending time with her family, and doing puzzles. She liked watching the MN Vikings and NASCAR and going to the Senior Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Frank (who died in 2002): daughter, Linda; adopted son, Joe Rios; sisters, Eleanor "Punky" and Florence; brothers, Arthur, Walter, Roland, Travlers, Jewell, and Elmore; daughter-in-law, Vikki Welch (wife of John Welch); brothers-in-law, David (Deloris) Welch, Jerry (Margot) Welch, Patrick (Ellen) Welch; nephews, Nathan Welch, Mike Welch, Jerry (Debbie) Welch Jr., and Darryl "Butch" Harkins as well as niece, Angie James.

Survivors include her five sons, Tom (Cindy) Welch of Ashby, Patrick Welch of Forest Ranch, CA, Paul (Diane) of Apple Valley, CA, John Welch of Mesa, AZ, and Dan (Jean) Welch of Buena Park, CA; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Ann Harkins of Ulen, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service: 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Olson Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Fergus Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
