Janice Marie Ciccarello, 85, of Portsmouth, NH, passed away on July 29, 2025, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, following a battle with heart disease. Born in Old Town, Maine, on May 21, 1940, Jan spent her early years in her home state before moving to Middletown, Connecticut. There, she met the love of her life, Salvatore Ciccarello, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. The couple relocated to New Hampshire in 1970 to build their life together. After Salvatore's passing, Jan resided at the assisted living community at Cedar Healthcare in Portsmouth, beginning in 2018. Jan worked for and retired from Northeast Delta Dental in Concord, NH, in the early 2000s. She happily embraced retirement to become a full-time grandmother and cherished "second mother" to her grandchildren, Alyssa and Anthony Ciccarello. This role brought her profound happiness and purpose; being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys. Jan found delight in many activities. She loved dressing up for Halloween each year, bowling, playing bingo, and solving crossword puzzles. Her creative side shone through in her painting, poetry, and crocheting. She enjoyed trips to the beach, playing games on her iPad, and going out to celebrate her birthday. In her later years at assisted living, she treasured Thursday evening "ladies' happy hour," where a single, well-diluted drink was enough to make her giggle. She loved her friends and family fiercely, often ending conversations with her signature phrases, "I love you to the moon and back," or a competitive, "I love you more." Jan is survived by her two sons, Craig Ciccarello of Berwick, Maine, and Harold Bryant of Pittsfield, NH; her grandchildren, Alyssa, Anthony, Jason, Danielle, Mark, and Phoebe; as well as several great-grandchildren. Jan had a special gift for making everyone in her presence smile. Her comedic and loving personality, along with her abundance of hugs and kisses, will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Mom.

Craig - your mom was such a special lady. Whenever Bob and I visited New Hampshire your mom would welcome us with open arms, big hugs and a huge smile. Her most special moments would be when she spoke about you and your children. Even when she had tough times she´d mention you and you were her angel on earth. Now bless her soul she´s your angel in heaven , looking down with that beautiful smile and watching over you and your children. You are blessed with a special angel to help you get through your grief.

Dear mom. This is one of the hardest things to write. You always said you love me more. But that wasn't the case. I loved you since I took my first breath. I've looked up to you all my life. My life will never be the same without you in it. You always made me laugh, your goodbyes always long, your hugs always tight, your kiss always so calming, holding your hand always so secure, your texts will be missed, your funny laugh, your sence of humor, your bday cards so sweet, everything that made you my mom will be missed like oxygen. A piece of me left when you left. Im so honored to have been your son. You always praised me alone and to others all the time. The knock on your window when I'd leave, your MUAH when I walked away, the tilt of your head when you'd look at me, and the sound of your voice telling everyone in the room, "this is my son" I will never hear again. All of this I will miss dearly. I love you mom "to the moon and back".
Your son,
Craig

Craig, So sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. I only met her once at the PFUCC and though it was probably 20 years ago, I will never forget how hard she had us all laughing, as she told Jimmy and I stories about you as a kid. Always remember you will always miss her so much because you loved each other so much. Wish you and your family well in this sad time.
