Janice E. Heupel, 87, Eureka, SD, died Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. Funeral services ae scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, Eureka, led by Pastor Patrick Russell. Interment follows at the Eureka Cemetery. Ushers will be Cliff Berreth and Greg Grenz; Pianist will be Pat Grenz and organist will be Esther Grosz; Congregational hymns will be "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art".

Visitation will be at Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka, from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday.

Jan's funeral will be livestreamed at the Lien Family Funeral Care Facebook page.

Janice Elaine Beck, daughter of Irene (Libis) and Ruben Beck, was born February 14, 1938 on a farm 10 miles SW of Eureka in McPherson County. She was brought up on various farms near Eureka and attended rural school and Eureka High School. Janice married Donald Heupel at Eureka on August 7, 1955. Jan lived her entire life in Eureka. She worked as a telephone operator for a time. Donald was a lifelong builder and Jan worked with her mother-in-law, Leah Heupel, doing finishing work in new homes. The Heupels, along with Jan's uncle Floyd Libis, owned and operated Peever Lumber from 1977-1987. After that Don and Jan traveled the country building hotels for various companies. Jan was a valuable helper doing office work and bookkeeping. In 2000, they retired. Jan was an active member of First Baptist Church where she planned many lunches for various events. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.

Janice is survived by Donald, her husband of 70 years; two daughters-Terri (John) Diulus of Plantation, FL and Carmen (Gordon) Wendell of Somerset, SD; two brothers-Robert Beck of Bradenton, FL and Scott Beck of Aberdeen; three sisters-Virginia Bauer and Vicky Beck of Aberdeen and Patricia Miller of Chandler, AZ; five grandchildren-Jesse Haas of Brooklyn, NY; Jamie Georgas of Arlington, VA; Tyler Wendell of Holly Springs, NC; Erika Wendell of Portland, OR; and Aleah Wendell of Somerset; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ruben, on June 28, 1997; her mother, Irene, on May 23, 1998; her son, Rick on March 24, 2023; one sister, Paulette Aipperspach; and one brother, Tim Beck.

Honorary bearers will be Jan's siblings-Robert, Scott, Virginia, Vicky, and Patricia as well as her niece Dana Aippersbach.

Casket bearers will be her grandchildren-Jesse, Jamie, Tyler, Erika, and Aleah, as well as her nephew Derek Beck of Aberdeen.

Services are in care of Lien-Straub-Carlsen Chapel, Eureka.
