Janie Hastings, 84, of Gonzales passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 7, 1941 in Gonzales the daughter of Luciano and Julia Longoria Rodriguez. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was baptized at an early age and accompanied her grandmother every Sunday. She loved to sing and was a member of the church choir and school choir. She was a graduate of Gonzales High School Class of 1961.
She married Joe Hastings, Sr. and to that union five children were born. She was later with her life partner Jose Sanchez for 39 years. She enjoyed gardening and most of all treasured raising her kids and grandkids.
Janie never met a stranger. She loved and accepted everyone that came into her home.
She is survived by her partner Jose Sanchez; daughters Debra Dean Hardaway and Shelly, Cynthia Ann Mayberry and Ray and Julie Ann Miller and Myron all of Gonzales; sons Joseph Anthony Hastings and Lillian and Mark Anthony Hastings and Laura all of Gonzales; sister Carmen Guiterrez of Crown Point, Indiana; brother Richard Rodriguez of Edgar Springs, Missouri. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Emilio Rodriguez, Guadalupe Rodriguez and Luciano Rodriguez, Jr.; sisters Connie Rodriguez, Hope Sourbeck, Lupita Tijerna and Esther DeLaCruz; grandchildren Joseph Anthony Hastings, Alexa Rae Henderson and Arthur Ray Henderson Jr.
Visitation will be held 9 a.m. Thursday July 17, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rosary being recited at 9:30 a.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday with Reverend Jason Martini officiating. Interment will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include Cleveland Webb, Mark Hastings II, Trevor Mayberry, Tyrann Webb, Joseph Troy Hastings and Joe Larry Hastings.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sievers Clinic, Dr. Hisey and Elara Hospice for their care.
