Ramona Jean (DeKemper) Cox, 93, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away July 21, 2025 at her home. She was born October 18, 1931 in Uniontown, KY to the late Bill and Margaret (Richmond) DeKemper.
Jean graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and went on to own and operate the Four Seasons Motel for over 52 years, retiring in 2021. She attended the Mt. Vernon Community Church and was a former member of the Garden Club. Jean also served on the Board of Directors for the Western Hills Country Club, where she was a proud member. A passionate gardener, she earned the distinction of Master Gardener. In her free time, Jean enjoyed playing tennis, horseback riding, and boating.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Robert Cox; daughter, Sheri Banks; brother, Wayne DeKemper; sister, Grace Lowery; brother-in-law, Tom Sharp; and her companion of over 10 years Bill Goss.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Cox (Genny); grandchildren, Danny Banks (Kim), Sam Banks (Megan DeVault), Hansen Cox (Hannah Barber) and Ellee Cox; great-grandchildren, Blake and Emily Banks, and Cole and Reis DeVault; sister, Connie Jo Sharp; nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Shari Ferron.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Troy DeKemper officiating. Burial to be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mt. Vernon Community Church, 1800 W. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620.
