Jean Hurley Friley, age 85 of Knoxville went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2025. She was born on December 13, 1939 in McDunn, West Virginia to John and Cleo (Miller) Hurley.
A believer in Christ, Jean was a woman of quiet faith. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Concord, she volunteered with Mission of Hope and took part in mission trips during her retirement. Jean built a successful administrative career, beginning at the Department of Housing in Washington, D.C., where she served from 1959 to 1969. After raising her children, she resumed her career in Knoxville at TVA, working from 1987 until her retirement in 2011.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother-deeply involved in the lives of her family and always ready to offer support and care. Jean's passions were many: an avid reader, she also enjoyed painting, quilting, exploring family history, and cheering on U.T. sports. She loved songs with a good beat and could sometimes be found dancing just a little in the grocery store aisle when a good one came on. Even the family pets adored her, especially when she arrived with sausage biscuits in hand for pet-sitting duty. When extended family visited, Jean could often be found at the kitchen table, exchanging funny stories and sharing laughter. Her life was a beautiful blend of faith, family, and fun-and she will be remembered with deep love and lasting gratitude.
Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Michael Lynn Friley; parents, John and Cleo Hurley; siblings and spouses: Ruby and Ken Stevens, Marie and Glenn Easterling, Bobbie and Cecil Workman, Geraldine Hurley, and John Hurley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Friley; brother-in-law, Frank Lewis.
Survived by her daughter, Christy Parrott (Jeff), of Knoxville; son, Shannon Michael Friley (Rebecca), of Knoxville; grandchildren, Graham, Emeri, and Jed Parrott; Hannah Cunningham (Tommy), and Jonah Friley; sister, Joan Lewis; sisters-in-law, Martha Hurley and Paula Johnston (Paul); brothers-in-law, Richard Friley (Kay), and David Friley (Donna) along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 12th in the chapel of First Baptist Church Concord. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Steve Peek officiating. Memorials may be made to Mission of Hope. Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.
