Jesse James Dobbs, born on February 28, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home in Parrish, Alabama, on July 13, 2025. A devoted family man and a steadfast member of his community, Jesse is remembered for his attention to detail and thoroughness in all aspects of his life.
Jesse dedicated 29 years of his career to Dickey Clay, where he served as a foreman, earning the respect of both his colleagues and peers. He was also proud of his military service in the US Navy, where he worked as a cook. Beyond his professional pursuits, he was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion, showing his strong commitment to service and honoring those who have fought for their country.
Jesse is survived by his brothers, Tommy Dobbs and Raymond Dobbs; his children, Bell Brooks, Billy Brooks, and Mike West; and his grandchildren, Joseph Brasher (Lisa), David Brasher, Paula Tucker (Shelby), James Brooks (Alisha), Junior Brooks, Melinda Scroggins, Michael West, Jonathan West, Angela West, and Heather West. He also leaves behind a legacy of love through his great-grandchildren, Natalie Brasher, Ryan Brasher, DJ Brasher, Andrew Hopkins, Jessalyn Hopkins, Bradley Tucker, Thomas Brooks, Tiffany Brooks, Travis Brooks, Austin Smith, Lydia Smith, Michael Scroggins, Maykayla, Matthew, and numerous great-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jesse J. Dobbs, Sr. and Mary Nell Johnson Dobbs; his cherished wife of 48 years, Polly A. Dobbs; his brother, Stevie Dobbs; his sister, Sandra Dobbs; his daughter, Nancy Herbert; and his grandchildren Charlie Smith and Daniel Smith.
Jesse's life will be honored with a visitation on July 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both held at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home in Pleasant Grove, Alabama.
As we remember Jesse James Dobbs, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by commitment to family, service, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
