Jesse Calvin Potts, age 98, of Frederic, Michigan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 4, 2025. Born on April 7, 1927, in Tennessee Ridge, Tennessee, Jesse lived a long and meaningful life marked by deep faith, devotion to family, and a love for music.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bessie; his daughter, Vivian Sanner; his grandson, Al Sanner II; his great-grandson, Ashton, his twin brother John Wesley and sister Viola, daughter-in-law Treva Potts, daughter-in-law Shirley Potts, and son-in-law Al Sanner.
Jesse is survived by his loving children: Jesse Daryl, Pamela (Dennis) Rye, Clark (Mary Jo), and David (Heidi). He was a cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all who brought great joy to his life.
A self-taught musician, Jesse played the guitar, mandolin, and bass fiddle. He shared his gift of music with family, friends, and his church community. Alongside his twin brother, Wesley, Jesse played country and bluegrass music, as well as gospel, a reflection of his deep faith. His passion for music was a constant throughout his life and a legacy passed down through generations.
Jesse was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge for over 65 years. He retired after 47 years as a welder with Detroit Tube Products. His hobbies included deer hunting, fishing, rock hunting, and telling his beloved ‘dad’ jokes, always bringing laughter and warmth to those around him.
Above all, Jesse will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his love for his family, and his passion for music. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, MI. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Frederic. A luncheon will then be provided following interment at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
