Jimmie Dell Arthur, 86, a retired farmer, died Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at his home.
Visitation is 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Wilcox Funeral Home. Visitation will also be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Carthage First Baptist Church. Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Carthage First Baptist Church with Bro. Steven Evans and Bro. Don Cook officiating. Interment will be in Wiggins Cemetery.
Mr. Arthur was born in Leake County on December 10, 1938, to Odell and Kate Whittington Arthur. He was a graduate of MS State University. He served his country as a United States Army Captain, field artillery unit commander in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He joined the Leake County Farm Bureau in 1966 and served as president from 1971 - 1972 and 1975-2012 (38 years). He was also a board member of the MS Farm Bureau Federation and served as director for 14 years. Mr. Arthur was a member of the ASCS from 1969-1992. In 2019 he received the MS Farm Bureau Distinguished Award. He was a member of the Gideons and served as a deacon in his church for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dott Arthur in March.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Lisa Crout (Jeffery) of Madison and Linda Gross (John) of Carthage; a brother-in-law, Frank Grimes of Carthage; a sister-in-law, Sharon Grimes of Carthage; 6 grandchildren: John Luke Gross (Emily), Sara Beth Meek (Joel), Heather Goff (Kenny), Haley Moore (Justin), Benjamin Crout, and Anna Crout; 3 great-grandchildren: Liam Meek, Molly Kate Meek, and Noah Gross.
Pallbearers are John Luke Gross, Joel Meek, Kenny Goff, Justin Moore, Benjamin Crout, and Frank Grimes.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Wiggins Cemetery Fund, 2115 Hwy 16 West, Carthage, MS 39051
