Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral HomeRemembering Jo Carol Boone: A Life Baked with Love and Laughter
Jo Carol Boone, born May 28, 1931, found eternal peace on July 13, 2025.
"Aunt Jo" was, in so many delightful ways, the heart of our family. Her kitchen was a magical place, and her cooking and baking were legendary: éclairs that defied description, sour cream pound cake that could solve all your problems, and tea cakes and peanut butter cookies that disappeared faster than you could say "flitter ditter!" Holiday gatherings at her home were annual highlights, where the food was abundant, and the laughter even more so.
For us kids, Aunt Jo's house was our haven and childhood playground. We'd "swim" in the infamous blue-green carpet, transform plastic napkin rings into cherished toys, gaze in wonder at her spinning wheel and trinkets, inspect every miniature masterpiece in her dollhouse, and sneak a butterscotch or cinnamon hard candy from her candy dish. Though she never married or had children, Aunt Jo poured her boundless affection into her extended family, loving us as if we were her very own and teaching us that the best way to show affection was often through a warm hug and friendly hello, a thoughtful gift meticulously wrapped and placed under the tree, or by sharing a freshly baked treat. Beyond her baking prowess, she was a woman of diverse passions: a devoted churchgoer, Sunday School teacher, golfer, skilled sewer, Jeopardy competitor (from her living room chair, of course), crossword solver, world traveler, and an award-winning photographer with an eye for capturing the beauty of nature.
Preceded in glory by her cherished Yorkie, Butch, her mother Gertrude Mildred Beck, her father Marvin DeWitt "Dees" Boone, her brother Marvin DeWitt Boone, Jr., and her nephew David Boone. Aunt Jo leaves behind her brother, William "Billy" Boone, sister Martha L. (George) Brenenstahl, her sister-in-law Marianna Boone, and a vast, loving lineage of nieces Lynda (Bruce) Harbin, Sherron (Chuck) Harris, Mary Beth (Clay) Horne, Karen (John) Brenenstahl, Valerie Danner, Victoria Boone, and nephews George Brenenstahl, Jr., Andrew (Mi Jung) Boone, as well as many great-nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and a great-nephew, all of whom will deeply miss her, but celebrate her long awaited peace.
Funeral Service for Jo Carol Boone will be held on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at 10 A.M., at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M., at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
