Jo Ellen Swensen, age 64, of Irene South Dakota, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025.
Jo was born on April 28, 1961, in Yankton South Dakota, to James and Joy Chase. She grew up embracing the values of hard work, kindness, and simplicity - qualities that stayed with her throughout her life.
Jo was the beloved wife to Art Swensen, and the mother of Daisy (Jason) Becker, Sara (Adam) Pearson, and a proud and loving daughter to James and Joy Chase. She was a cherished sister to Jill and Jeffrey (Christina) Chase. Jo was a very proud grandma to four grandchildren, a great grandma to six great grandchildren, and a loyal friend to many.
Jo had a generous heart and a deep love for the simple life, especially her time on the farm. She found joy in helping others, offering a listening ear, and lending a hand whenever she could. Her quiet strength and genuine spirit touched everyone who knew her.
She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
In honor of Jo's giving nature, her request was in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a local food bank in her memory.
121 E. Main St., Irene, SD 57037
