Joan Hazzard O'Dell Jennings, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025 in Platte City, Missouri.
Joan was born on Oct. 28, 1931 in Worth, Missouri to Otis and Effie (Myers) Hazzard. One of ten children, Joan grew up in a farming family during the depression and attended Nursing College in St. Joseph after graduating from Mirable High School. She worked as a nurse at Sister's Hospital in St. Joseph from 1965 until 1980, serving as their Infection Control Officer for the last 10 years of her career. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time with her family, and chatting on the phone with her sisters.
Joan is preceded in death by husbands Ralph O'Dell (1979), and Charles Jennings (2023); her parents; sisters Ruth Patee, Ruby Allen, Reba Killin, Marjorie Catron, Mary McNary Chowning, Patricia Dunlap, and Barbara Catron; brothers Roy Hazzard and Forrest Hazzard; and stepson Jerry Jennings. She is survived by children, Randall (Karla) O'Dell, Broadway, NC; Steven (Julia) O'Dell, St. Joseph; and Brenda (Joseph) Castillo, Platte City; John (Billie) Jennings; and Kathy Jennings; Grandchildren Sarah (Michael) Haught, Jonathan (Lynda) O'Dell, Amanda (Nathaniel Krumdick) O'Dell, Katherine (Michael Scribner) O'Dell, Aaron (Mari) O'Dell, Andrew (Katie) Castillo, Jacob Castillo, Deric (Allyson) Jennings, Jackson (Aana) Jennings, Ryan (Mindy) Jennings, and Alyxis (Ben) Spencer; Great-grandchildren Vincent, Liam, Conner, Riley, Owen, Charlie, Teddy, Luke, Ryder, Taylor, Bruce, Ben, Gaius, Landyn and Harper; and many nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service.
