Joann Owens Howell, age 88 of Shelbyville, TN, passed from this life Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Joann was born September 8, 1936, in Decherd, TN, to the late Charles L. and Alma Brinkley Owens.

The majority of her work career was spent with Pinkerton/Guard Smart who contracted with various companies in Tennessee. Joann enjoyed working in her vegetable garden or in the beautiful flowerbeds which contained roses, lilies, and chrysanthemums. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Leon Howell; daughter-in-law, Lisa Boyce Howell; siblings: Johnny Lenard Owens, Jean Owens Mathis, Betty Owens Prince, and Kathy Gail Owens.

She is survived by her son, Mark Leon Howell, siblings: Linda Jones of Manchester, Judy Syler of Manchester, and Henrietta Owens Robinson of Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Dr. Marvin Koonce officiating. Burial will follow at Wheel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
