John Jesse Adleman, Jr., 78, of Kiel, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025. Throughout the last two decades, John has fought and beaten multiple cancer diagnoses with positivity and sheer will. He has now finally found peace with his loving family by his side throughout it all. John was born on April 25, 1947, at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. John was the son of the late John Jesse Adleman, Sr. and Loyis DeZwarte. After graduating from Mundelein High School in Illinois, he enlisted in the United States Army on February 27th, 1966, and completed his basic training at Fort Polk, LA. John was deployed to Vietnam in October of 1966. After completing his tour of duty in 1967, he was stationed at Fort Lewis in the state of Washington until February 28th, 1969. John had earned the rank of Spec. 5 First Engineer Battalion - First Infantry Division. On April 9th, 1969, John began working for General Telephone Company and continued to work for them in various capacities, mainly as a cable splicer, until 2009 when he retired from the phone company, then called Verizon. On October 10, 1970, John married Mary H. Sukowaty at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan, WI. John and Mary had four beautiful children together: Kristina, John, Scott, and Jolene. Aside from hobby farming, John kept busy volunteering as a Boy Scouts leader, 4-H Schleswig Cadets hog leader, and youth baseball and S.S. Peter & Paul girls' basketball coach. He also assisted his wife in raising and showing Arabian horses and was active in the NEWPHA and WDHA horse clubs for many years. John served as an usher at the S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in
Kiel, WI, for decades. One of John's greatest joys in retirement was volunteering at the Kiel St. Vincent De Paul store weekly and enjoying the company of the many wonderful people who work there. Anyone who knew John would tell you that he was a devoted family man and that his children and grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He was always there for them and constantly bragged about them, sharing their sports, personal achievements, and other adventures. John taught his children and grandchildren what it meant to be truly loving people and parents. John was preceded in death by his parents, John Jesse Adleman, Sr. and Loyis DeZwarte, stepfather Erwin Heidenreiter, younger brothers Dwyne "Butchy" Adleman and Theodore Adleman. John's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and Aurora Medical Center in Sheboygan and their many fine team members for the compassion and care they provided over the many years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's name. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. The Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed, and all the Gentiles might hear it. - 2 Timothy 4:6-8
