It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John C. Arendes, age 58, who died on Wednesday, March 25, 2025, at HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers, FL. Formerly of Rock Tavern, NY, John had been a resident of Bonita Springs, FL, since 2021.
John was born on September 20, 1966, in New York, NY, to Thomas Arendes and Lily Ann (Marino) Francis. He graduated from St. John's University with a bachelor's degree in finance and went on to earn his Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University. John began his career in finance before transitioning to the compliance training software industry, where he retired as CEO.
John was a passionate athlete, enjoying running, biking, and swimming. He was in the midst of training for his next triathlon at the time of his passing. In his younger years, John also played baseball until the age of 40, demonstrating his commitment to fitness and sports. As a lifelong sports fan, he was an avid supporter of the New York Mets and New York Jets.
Throughout his life, John demonstrated a selfless desire to help others. He proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in the town of Washingtonville, NY, earning the admiration of his community.
Above all, John's greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Gabriella. He was incredibly proud of her accomplishments and cherished their time together.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Joann P. Arendes; his daughter, Gabriella Arendes of Washington, D.C.; his mother, Lily Ann Francis of Naples, FL; sisters, Nicole (Vinny) Gianni of NY, Jade (Gabe) Bleecher-Arendes of Queens, NY; and step-brother, Justin (Amy) Paguaga of AZ. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Arendes.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, FL 34134. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28300 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in John's memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, or any veteran-supporting foundation of your choice.
John's legacy of generosity continues as he gave the gift of life through organ donation.
