John Elden Boston, 91, of Girard, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday June 9, 2025, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
John was born on September 12, 1933, in Atwater, IL to Marion and Gladys (Jones) Boston. He graduated from Carlinville High School in 1952 and later married Maxine Whitworth on April 15, 1963, in Springfield, IL and she survives.
A proud veteran, John served four years in the U.S. Air Force before transferring to the Air National Guard, from which he eventually retired. He worked as a crop insurance adjuster for several companies and was widely respected throughout the community.
John was a devoted member and elder of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard. He was also active in civic life, serving as a proud member of the Girard Lions Club and holding a seat on the Girard Township Board. John was known as a life long fan of the St Louis Cardinals rarely missing a game.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dick Boston; brothers, Louis and Gerald Boston; and sister, Francis Haley.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Maxine of Girard; daughters, Bunnie (Ron) Miller, Ruth (Ronnie) Crays, Kelly (Rocky) Turner, and Beth Wise; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his deep faith, dedication to service, and love for his family and community.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday, June 16, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard IL with Rev Christen Prumm officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family.
