John Scott Cameron, a devoted husband, loving father, adoring grandfather, and proud United States Marine, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025 at the age of 70.

John was born in Middletown, CT on November 21, 1954. Many will remember him for his love of Jack Daniels and being the life of the party, but he will always be characterized by something deeper: his commitment to service. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1976, and he carried the principles of honor, courage, and commitment with him always. That commitment was a lifelong promise, calling him to help in the recovery efforts at Ground Zero after 9/11. To his final day he proved: "Once a Marine, Always a Marine."

After his military service, John continued to serve his community and family with the same dedication. He proudly served as Lieutenant for the Connecticut Department of Corrections from which he would retire after 20 years. He was also a proud and active member of the Montville American Legion Post 112, where he spent significant time and found a community of friends and veterans who shared his sense of service and brotherhood.

However, his most cherished roles were husband, father and grandfather. He was the beloved husband of Lynda for 50 years, and together they built a beautiful life. John was the source of unwavering support for his children: Melissa (Ray Barbaresi), Michael (Michael Grabo), and Michelle. He took immense pride in his role as Papa or Grandpa to Brooklynn, Kora, Chandler, and Camilla, who were the light of his life.

John is also survived by his sisters Maureen, Debi and Judey, and his brothers Jim and Tom. John also leaves behind Stephanie, Kaleb, Jackie, Rhys, Sammy, and Mia, all of whom held a very special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his mother Janice and father Walter, daughter Kimberly and son John, and his sister Sandy.

Calling hours will be held on August 8 at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00pm, 11 Jerome Rd., Uncasville, CT 06382. Burial with full military honors and a shot of Jack Daniels will take place at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457 the following day on Saturday, August 9 at 9:00am. Those who wish to join may go directly to the cemetery that morning. We invite everyone to a celebration of John's life at the American Legion Post 112, 89 Pink Row, Uncasville, CT 06382 beginning at 1pm.

Great memories of growing up with the Cameron family . We 7 Montagne kids matched the 7 Cameron kids in age. Had such fun in Guilford and the Old Bridge shop. Loved when they came to the Bridgewater farm where we cooked frog legs from the pond. Johnny was always smiling and whistling. A great guy.

Worked with John at MYI where he was an officer. He was a great man. After 911 he was one sent down to NYC and worked on "the pile". He later told us he was standing guard over a vault in the wreckage. He had a great moral compass of of duty. The world is a cheaper place without him.
