John Collins Obituary

John Calnan Collins, M.D., died peacefully on July 24, 2025, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
'Cal', as he was always known, is survived by his beloved wife Jackie(nee Arnold), his much loved sons John, Michael (Sheila), and Patrick Collins, and his cherished grandsons Liam and Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Calnan Collins and Frank E. Collins; his sister Carol Collins Hogan and his brother-in-law Edward M. Hogan, Jr.; his brother-in-law Tom Arnold and his sister-in-law Beth Arnold McGinley.
Cal was born in Chicago on June 5, 1953 and was raised in the South Shore and Beverly communities. He was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School, the University of Notre Dame (Class of 1975), and Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine (Class of 1978). He completed his residency at Stritch and was a Board Certified Neurologist. He practiced medicine as a Neurologist for many years in Illinois and Michigan until serious illness led to his retirement. In recent years, he and Jackie made their home in Grand Beach, MI, the village where he spent wonderful summers growing up.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday – Aug. 1, 11:00 A.M., at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church – 718 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the church.
