John Vaughn Denver, a cherished pillar of the Menifee community and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, in Menifee, California. Born on February 5, 1947, in San Francisco, California, John's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to service, education, and the betterment of his beloved city.
John's academic journey began at Cal State University, Long Beach, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics. His passion for education led him to obtain teaching credentials from the University of California, Riverside, and later, a Master's Degree in Education from Cal State San Bernardino. John's dedication to learning and growth shone brightly throughout his life and career.
For over eight years, John served as a respected teacher in the Perris Unified School District, shaping the minds and futures of countless students. His contributions extended beyond the classroom as he became a key figure in the development of Paloma Valley and Heritage high schools, ensuring that the community's youth had access to exceptional educational facilities. John's entrepreneurial spirit and love for his community were evident in his 40 years as a Broker for John Denver Realty. His profound impact on the city was further solidified during his 18 years on the Perris Unified School District Board. His leadership was instrumental in the incorporation of the City of Menifee in 2008, where he proudly served as one of the first City Council members and as Mayor in 2012.
Known affectionately as "The Father of Menifee," John's generosity and friendly demeanor touched the lives of many. His long-standing membership with the Rotary Club of Menifee since 1973 exemplified his dedication to community service. John and his loving wife, Linda, brought joy to the city as Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, a tradition they lovingly upheld for many years.
In recognition of his countless contributions, Rancho Ramona Park was re-named John V. Denver Park in October 2019, a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the place he called home.
John's legacy is carried on by his wife, Linda, his children, including his namesake John William Denver and daughter in law Crystal Kay Denver: his grandsons, Christopher Vaughn Denver and John Chrisian Denver; and his sister, Lisa Ann Benscheidt and the many individuals whose lives he enriched with his loving, friendly, and generous spirit. His unwavering dedication to his family, his career, and his community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
