John Gudmundson Obituary

John Edward Gudmundson, 76, Park Rapids, MN passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
John was born August 26, 1948 in Crookston, MN to John and Anna (Benson) Gudmundson. He grew up in Crookston. After high school he served as a medic in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He lived in Minneapolis and Oklahoma before returning to northern Minnesota where he worked for Leech Lake Gaming for many years, retiring in 2018.
John enjoyed watching football, hockey and baseball. He liked going to the casino, was an honor guard and a member of the Lutheran church.
John is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Barry Wilson) Heinonen of Osage, MN; girlfriend, Sheila Harvala of Osage; step-daughter, Rebecca Jones and granddaughter, Kari Ann Heinonen of Audubon, MN; son, Michael Gudmundson of Texas; daughter, Christine Gudmundson of Oklahoma; son, David White of Grand Rapids, MN; sisters-in-law, Lori Heinonen, Lisa Thompson; brothers-in-law, Mike Heinonen, Perry Heinonen, Robin Heinonen, Leslie Heinonen; and foster grandson, Jay Greene; other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Gudmundson; wife, Judy Gudmundson; siblings, Lorraine Tomverlin and James Gudmundson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with visitation for 1 hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Fort Snelling Cemetery in St. Paul, MN.
